Mrs. Millington has been teaching for a long time. She has been at
Riviera Hall for 7 years. She attended California State University
Long Beach and received a B.A. with an art major. After teaching with
the Long Beach Unified School District for more than 15 years she
earned her Masters in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of
St. Thomas.
Mrs. Millington has been the second grade teacher at Riviera Hall since
fall of 2001. The educational philosophy of Mrs. Millington reinforces
the growth of her students, socially, mentally, and spiritually. She
believes in providing a learning environment where her students feel
physically, emotionally, and intellectually inspired. Second grade is a
transitional year, where students need to learn to be responsible for their
own academic success. Mrs. Millington practices a consistent hands-on
management style that promotes individual responsibility and encourages
consequences for one’s actions. She believes that a Christian-based
education allows us as God, school and family, to work together in love to
open a word of possibility through our children. |

I have taught at RHLS for many years. Each year is as exciting and challenging as the year before.
I graduated from a teacher's college in Massachusetts with a B.A. in elementary education and a master's in elementary education.
My hope for third grade is to provide a creative and stimulating curriculum which fosters independent thinking in an atmosphere of cooperation and respect. |

Midge Anunson began her tenure at Riviera Hall as a substitute teacher. She thought
she would “help out” for a few days
a month, but is still here fourteen years later! Midge often tells parents and
students that our school reminds her of
the Christian elementary school she attended as a child and that is one of the main
reasons that attracted her to RHLS.
Prior to coming to our school, Midge spent several years in the airline
industry in both Operations and Training. She feels that her experience in the “outside working world” has best
prepared her to educate our children for the future.
“The second half of my career has been the most rewarding” she says, “as it has provided me the opportunity to work with
many exceptionally talented, enthusiastic and responsive young people.” She feels
Riviera Hall provides a Christ centered quality education for its students. Both teachers and students work hard
to achieve their goals and she is proud to be a member of the faculty. |

| As a middle school math and science teacher and the sixth grade homeroom teacher, my
teaching philosophy is based on a mastery of the fundamentals combined with a
fostering of critical thinking and problem solving strategies. I try to pass my
passion for math and science along to my students in a variety of ways. Life-long
learning skills are emphasized through hands-on experiments, field trips and
creative competitions. It is my hope that my passion for math and science fuels my
students to be creative, inquisitive life-long learners. |

Richard Peck, the award winning children's author, wrote:
"I READ: because one
life isn't enough, and
in the pages of a book
I can be anybody;
I READ: because the
words that build
the story become mine,
to build my life;
I READ: not for happy
endings but for new
beginnings;"
My goal is to teach my students the power and joy of words. Through reading words
of value, they become young women and men of thought. With meaningful thoughts
from their reading, they have ideas to share. With ideas, we work on both oral and
written communication. And in return, my students give to me their energy,
enthusiasm, effort, and innocence. Teaching is such a wonderful journey.
In the beginning was the Word... |

With a strong belief in engaging students through a challenging but fun curriculum, Mr. Sean
Lathrom has taught middle school social studies and global studies for the past five years at
Riviera Hall Lutheran School. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Criminology, Law and Society
from University of California, Irvine, and his Juris Doctorate from the UCLA School of Law.
Setting his law practice aside, Mr. Lathrom chose to pursue his passion for teaching and the
development of young minds. He designed the global studies curriculum with a concentration on
teaching students geographic literacy and the important responsibility they share as members of
an increasingly interconnected world. In addition, he founded an honors course series in
analytical reading and writing, including courses which focus on race in literature and political
theory. Mr. Lathrom leads middle school history trips to Europe every Easter, and serves as the
Mock Trial coach. In 2004, the RHLS Mock Trial team was the Los Angeles County junior
division champion. Mr. Lathrom takes great pride in the academic successes of his students and
their ability to thrive in any high school environment.
