Our Philosophy: We strive to educate our students academically, while also focusing on social and emotional development. This goal is achieved by implementing structures and routines that foster independence as well as encourage a willingness to explore new ideas. We provide our students with the support they need to grow and develop, and recognize the need to let students make discoveries independently. As we grow and develop as a class, we seek to instill an understanding of the importance of respecting the rights and opinions of others. Each year we look forward to learning from our students and growing as teachers.

Our Goals: We would like the students to read with fluency and confidence. Build strong comprehension skills and inspire a love of learning.

May Monthly

“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it,
and it will be yours. And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone,
forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.”
Mark 11:24-25

Wow! It is hard to believe it is already May. Time sure does fly when you’re having fun. I would like to thank all the wonderful first graders for doing such a great job on their Chapel presentation on Fairness. They all worked very hard on the presentation. I am very proud of all of you!!

There are some important dates to remember this month. During the first week of May, the children will be taking the Iowa Tests. Please make sure your child gets plenty of rest each night and eats a healthy breakfast. It is very important that your child arrives to school on time. If you need to make a doctor’s appointment for your child, please schedule it for after 1:30. On Thursday, May 20 we will be having Open House and the Hands on Art Show at 6:00. Please be sure to attend, so you can see some of the great projects your child has been working on. It is also a great time for you to meet your child’s second grade teacher.

Please join me in wishing a very Happy Birthday to Rhyen (5/9).

Reading: The children will continue working in their fifth and final reader, Hometowns. They will learn about subject pronouns, possessives, and correct tense structure in sentences.

Math: They will complete the chapter on measurement and begin the chapter on double-digit addition and subtraction.

Religion: They will be writing about God’s words and learning about how to serve the Lord.

Science: They will learn about their lungs and the digestive system. They will also learn and observe the life cycle of the butterfly.

Social Studies: They will be reading about sport safety, U.S. National parks, and learning more about map skills.
