Our Philosophy: We strive to educate our students academically, while also focusing on social and emotional development. This goal is achieved by implementing structures and routines that foster independence as well as encourage a willingness to explore new ideas. We provide our students with the support they need to grow and develop, and recognize the need to let students make discoveries independently. As we grow and develop as a class, we seek to instill an understanding of the importance of respecting the rights and opinions of others. Each year we look forward to learning from our students and growing as teachers.

Our Goals: We would like the students to read with fluency and confidence. Build strong comprehension skills and inspire a love of learning.

February Monthly

“Glorify the Lord with me; let us exalt his name together.” Psalm 34:3

We will be celebrating the 100th Day of School on Thursday, February 23. Please remember to bring in your decorated 100th Day Vest and 100 pieces of snack for our 100th Day Trail Mix on this day.

We will also be going on our first field trip on the 100th Day of School. We will be going to the Roundhouse Aquarium in Manhattan Beach. Field trip information and permission slips will be sent home the first full week of February.

I would like to wish Lilly (2/22) and Charlie (2/24) a Happy 7th Birthday!!

Reading: The children will complete their third reading book, Imagine That and begin their fourth reader, Information Finders. They will read stories that give them more information about various plants and animals. The children will learn about homophones, which are words that sound the same but have different meaning and spelling. They will also lean about compound words. They will continue learning about present and past tense verbs and build on their comprehension skills by making inferences and predictions.

Math: They will learn their addition and subtraction facts to 18. They will also begin the chapter on geometry. They will learn about open and closed figures, plane and solid figures, and line of symmetry.

Religion: They will be learning and reading about believing and serving God.

Science: They will finish the unit on seasons and begin a unit on the solar system.
