My teaching philosophy is based on five basic principles. In my position as teacher, I strive to address varied student requirements through the use of intellectually appropriate materials, active engagement and multifaceted forms of evaluation. I seek to develop a community of learners through self-motivation and cooperation while maintaining a high level of expectation from all students. I believe in maintaining a well-managed classroom that exhibits thoughtful organization of time, space and materials and follows established routines and procedures. I practice communicating awareness and demonstrating a consistent, hands-on management style that promotes individual responsibility and encourages consequences for one’s actions. I endeavor to instruct with a high level of compassion, energy and humor. Additionally, my education philosophy reinforces the growth of my students, socially, mentally, and spiritually. I believe in providing a learning environment where my students feel physically, emotionally and intellectually safe. I believe that education is a school/parent partnership, one in which the parent plays an important role. I maintain that a Christian-based education allows us as God, school and family, to work together in love to open a world of possibility through these children. Second Grade January News Amid tissue paper snowflakes, counting by 3 snowmen, and The Mitten activities, the second grade is starting on their first Poster report: Wild about Animals. This goes very well with the science unit on Living Things. We begin cursive handwriting; the focus being proper grip and correct formation. In math we will be exploring basic geometry and then moving on to money and time. Happy 2009! |
