elcome! The first inhabitants of the Hollywood Riviera, home to Riviera Hall Lutheran School, traveled nomadically, followed food sources, and enjoyed the beauty of the peaceful Pacific Ocean. Not much has changed in the 6,000 years or so since the coastal natives camped on the shore. Except 5,945 years later, on September 12, 1952, Riviera Hall Lutheran School opened its doors to the families of the South Bay.

This year we celebrate our fifty-sixth year of creating an environment filled with academic excellence and surrounded by the love and the word of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, where children of all faiths and denominations have been a part of this fifty-five year experience. Riviera Hall is unique in that the bond between school and home is strengthened through our faith; it is a place students, parents and faculty call home.

How can it be May already? Our eighth graders are preparing for their final days at Riviera Hall; they now see everything as the last time they will be able to share in RHLS activities: the last hot lunch, the last dance, and their last Open House. Now each event seems so much more urgent. Not only are eighth graders feeling the energy.

May is a charged month for the teachers and students of Riviera Hall. We start the week of May 4 with Iowa Test of basic Skills; this is a weeklong standardized test given to our students grades Kindergarten through eighth grade. On May 7 we will hold the National Day of Prayer chapel at 1:45PM. This is a wonderful time when we as a nation can reach out to God in praise and worship.

As if May isn’t busy enough, Thursday, May21, Riviera Hall will host its Spring Open House and Art Show. Another event that may be of interest to you is our Spring Concert to be held on Friday, May 29 at 2pm. Under the leadership of our music teacher, Rita Matthews, our Kindergarten through fifth grade students will share their talents with family and friends alike. The month of May comes to a close with the eighth grade leaving for their East Coast trip Saturday, May 30. Mr. Lathrom, Mrs. Nollan and the eighth grade students will spend ten days touring Boston, New York, Pennsylvania and our nation’s capital. We are so blessed to be able to enjoy and partake in some many wonderful activities.
